Under the Banner of Heaven

Since I've been following the news about the children
Texas CPS removed from a ranch compound owned by
the FLDS (Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints), I decided
to read up on the sect. One book that was recommended
by others on a crime blog was "Under The Banner of
Heaven" by Jon Krakauer.

This book outlines the history of the Mormon church
and its leaders; it also chronicles the split within
the congregation in more recent history. The FLDS and
its "prophets" are touchedupon as well. Krakauer also
focuses attention upon a brutal murder conducted by
fundamentalist zealots, those who knew of the plot
and failed to warn the victims, including close
relatives.

I've not yet read or viewed Banking on Heaven
by Laurie Allen which documents escapees from the
FLDS sect but I'm hoping to do so. More information
about the film can be found at the link.
