The Light Bearer by Donna Gillespie

I thoroughly enjoyed "The Light Bearer" as it was rich in
historical detail. The story is set during the reigns of Nero
and Domitian, both in the Germanic region and in Rome.

Auriane, a young Chatti girl, daughter of a Germanic tribal
chieftan, becomes a warrior for her clan and leads them to
victories against their enemies. Living under a prophesy
told at her birth she struggles to change a doom foretold
and finds that prophesies have a way of coming true.
Trained to fight Roman style by a captive and
drawing upon her primal beliefs, Auriane becomes
expert with a sword and shuns old ways of fighting
and leads her people with new tactics.

A young Roman boy from the slums is rescued and
raised to his rightful status. Marcus is driven by his
search for truth and learning. Incurring the wrath of
his father and his enemies, Marcus strives to intercede
on the behalf of those unjustly accused, becoming the
bane of his friend, Domitian.

Their destinies collide after Auriane, now a holy
woman of her tribe, is defeated by the Romans
in battle, taken prisoner and trained to be a
Gladiator.

With an epic fight for survival, assassination of
an Emperor, the author provides a story
that is not only believeable, but enjoyable.
